Charles M. Schulz is a comic artist, cartoonist, and creator of the award-winning comic strip, Peanuts. Schulz was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 26th 1922. He graduated from high school in 1940 and began to work for an advertising agency. After he was drafted into the army during the Korean War, he had difficulty finding work and took a job at a Minneapolis newspaper where he created his first comic strip: Li'l Folks. It was a gag strip about a family of Siamese twins and their misadventures. It soon became popular and it was published in newspapers throughout the country. This helped Schulz gain confidence as a cartoonist. He soon began creating more strips for other publications which included: Patty Hill's Bein' Green; Bodoni-Italic; Sally Forth; and The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis. After graduating from high school, Schulz attended Minneapolis School of Art and Crafts where he studied to become an illustrator. In 1948, Schulz began drawing Peanuts in his spare time while working as a cartoonist at the St. Paul Pioneer Press. He continued to create Peanuts until his death in 2000.
